The Faceless Men Assassin’s Game is a weekend-long Ice & Fire Con event which requires pre-convention sign up. More information on sign ups will be given closer to Ice & Fire Con 2017.
The goal of the Faceless Men Assassin’s Game is to kill as many assassination targets as you can while drawing the least attention to yourself.
How to Play
Upon your arrival at the convention, please locate Brian Eidolon of the House of Black and White. Throughout the day on Friday, he will likely be dressed similar to this:
Once you locate him, you will receive your murder goodie bag. It is advised that you speak to him discreetly, as you do not want other Faceless Men to know you are one of them.
Inside your murder-goodie bag, you will receive several items, including:
1. A copy of these rules
2. A stabbing weapon
3. Your target’s dossier – this will include the identity and an image of your first target
You are free to attempt to kill your target any time after 7:00 PM on Friday. If you succeed in killing your target, you will acquire their target. Example: You kill Jack. Jack then hands over his current target paper – his target was Jill. Your target is now Jill.
You are also free to defend yourself from assassination. Please see below for details.
The game continues until only one Faceless Man remains, or until 4:00 AM on Sunday morning. Prizes will be distributed to the winners at our Awards Ceremony.
How to Kill Your Target
You will receive a stabbing implement in your welcome packet. In order to assassinate your target with this weapon, you will need to either poke them with or hold the “sharp” end of the weapon (lightly, but enough that they feel it) against their upper torso. Once you have done so, tell the target in a quiet voice “Valar Morghulis.”
You cannot throw this weapon. You must be holding the weapon to make your kill.
Please note that the weapon you receive will be recognizable to other Faceless Men – if they see it, you will have made yourself known to them and likely lost the element of surprise. Additionally, members of the Citywatch may see your drawn weapon and take action (see Citywatch section below). It is therefore advised that you do not draw this weapon until you are in position to make your kill.
How to Die
If your assassin kills you:
Once you have been assassinated and your attacker makes themselves known to you by telling you “Valar Morghulis”, turn over your current target paper to them.
If your target kills you:
Find the House of Black and White representative and let them know that you’ve been killed by your target. They will collect your target paper from you.
NO MATTER HOW YOU DIE, BE HONORABLE. DO NOT LOUDLY ANNOUNCE OR INDICATE TO ANYONE ELSE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN KILLED, OR ESPECIALLY WHO KILLED YOU. THE HONOR OF THE HOUSE OF BLACK AND WHITE COMES BEFORE YOUR PRIDE.
(In other words, once someone kills you, don’t be a poor sport and tell other people who killed you or make it obvious that your assassin is playing the game until after the game is concluded. Let your assassin enjoy their win and keep vying for the ultimate victory.
How to Defend Yourself
All men must die, but not all men must die willingly.
If you see someone approaching you with a Faceless Man’s stabbing weapon drawn, you have several options:
- You can draw your own stabbing weapon and try to stab them first or scare them away.
- You can try to leave the area until you are better prepared – and now you know who you’ve likely been assigned to as a target!
- You can do nothing and hope that someone else is their target and not you.
If you successfully kill the person trying to assassinate you, you don’t need to do anything else other than continue on your own mission.
In addition to Faceless Men, there are also designated members of the Citywatch. These keepers of the peace will patrol the grounds attempting to locate Faceless Men. These Citywatch are undercover and will not make themselves known to you – anyone could be a member.
If they see you with a Faceless Man weapon, they may yell and alert others of your identity. Similarly, they may report you to the House of Black and White. These are undesired and will have negative consequences.
